First off, congratulations! This is such an exciting time for y'all & you should celebrate! Your engagement photos should also feel like you — not stiff, not overly posed, but full of life & love. As a North Dallas Lifestyle Photographer, here are a few tips to make your photos feel effortlessly authentic :)
1. Pick a Location That Tells Your Story
The best locations aren’t always the fanciest ones — they’re the ones that hold meaning. Maybe it’s where you had your first date, your favorite coffee shop, or that quiet park you walk through every weekend. There are seriously so many options, & if you get overwhelmed I will always help my couples choose spaces that match their personality — whether that’s something playful, romantic, or adventurous.
2. Coordinate, Don’t Match
I know I've said this before but, your outfits should complement each other, not copy each other (there are few instances where there would be an exception). Think about neutral or earthy tones that blend well with nature — beige, sage, denim, or even some patterned gingham. Avoid neon or heavy patterns; they can distract from your connection. & most importantly? Wear something you feel comfortable & confident in. If you can move, laugh, & dance in it — it’s perfect. I will also be there to guide you through the process if you have any questions!
3. Bring Something Meaningful
Props tell a story without saying a word. & that is why I love them. A blanket from your first picnic, a bouquet, a coffee mug you both love — anything that makes your photos yours. These little details make your gallery feel personal & nostalgic.
4. Trust the Process
It’s normal to feel nervous at first, but the magic happens when you let go. I’ll guide you through poses that feel natural, not forced. My goal is to capture your laughter, the way you look at each other, & those quiet, in-between moments that make it feel like home.
5. Timing Is Everything
Golden hour — that soft, warm light right before sunset — creates the most flattering glow. It brings warmth, emotion, & a romantic tone that makes your photos feel cinematic & timeless. Plus, it's my favorite time of day ;)
